Three Pigs and A Wolf

Once there were three piglets setting out to create their place in the world. They each had their own tastes and ambitions to steer them. One piglet thought it would be nice to create a simple shelter that could be repaired easily. He enjoyed the notion of being able to try out different areas to experience as a home. The second piglet liked the feel of the wood and preferred the embrace of trees. A sturdy log cabin by a river in a small clearing suited her quite nicely. The third piglet was drawn skyward atop a hill where the winds blow but the sun and night sky are bigger and bolder than anywhere else. A strong structure, one that could welcome the gusts of wind, while cozily harboring those inside and providing both light and nightsky to view. Clay brick with care fully place window throughout the home required thoughtful planning. So he took longer to build it and invested his carefully thinking about each important detail of his house.

One day while the piglets were busy making their homes that a wolf happened to come calling on the first piglet. “Hey piglet! I noticed that you’re new to the neighborhood and I thought I’d come by to welcome you. I’ve just been to the blackberry patch and have a couple of bushels to share. I have some home made peanut butter too. Do I smell some fresh baked bread?” “Why yes, it is!” said the piglet. My name is Wilbur, what is yours?” “Jerome” said the wolf with a pleasant smile. And together they enjoyed some delicious peanut butter and blackberry sandwiches on Wilbur’s fresh baked bread.

After relaxing together a while on Wilbur's straw bale sofa. Wilbur said, “I have to deliver some of this fresh bread to my sister and brother. Would you like to come and meet them?” "Sure!” said Jerome. So they strolled toward Wilbur's sisters log cabin site in the woods. On the way Jerome showed Wilbur where a large healthy fig tree lived. “Would you like to pick some fresh figs with me?” asked Jerome. “Of course!” said Wilbur. So, together they picked enough figs to fill two bushels.

When they arrived at Wilbur's sister's spot in the woods, they could smell the pot of black-eyed pea stew that she had just finished cooking. “Yummm that smells great!” said Wilbur as he and Jerome approached her front door. “Hi Wilbur, who is your friend?” she asked. “This is Jerome. He’s come to welcome us into the woods” said Wilbur. “I’m pleased to meet you. My name is Barbie,” said Wilbur's sister. So together they enjoyed Barbie’s black-eyed pea stew with Wilbur's fresh bread and then had a few delicious fresh picked figs for dessert. After a pleasant time of getting to know their new friend, Wilbur and Barbie thought it would be nice to introduce their new friend to their brother atop the hill. They brought with them the pot of black eyed pea stew that Barbie made, Wilbur's fresh bread, Jerome's peanut butter and black berries, and the bushel of fresh picked figs.

“Howdy!” yelled Barbie and Wilbur’s brother from atop a ladder. Wiping his brow he said, “Hi brother, Hi sis! Who’s your friend?” “This is Jerome,” said Barbie, “He’s come by to welcome us into the neighborhood”. “Well that’s mighty kind of you Jerome, I’m pleased to be making your acquaintance”. With that he came down from his ladder and held out his hoof and said, “My name is Doogie”. “Hi Doogie, welcome to our woods” said Jerome. “I’ve been enjoying some of you brother and sister fine cooking and hospitality. "Can you cook as good as them?”. “I’m afraid not”, said Doogie. “Wilbur and Barbie are the official chef’s in our family, but I do have a nice garden full of fresh greens growing just over yonder. Would anybody care for a big cool juicy garden salad?” “Sure!” they all replied as their faces lit up. So together they strolled to the garden and picked some big tender lettuce greens, cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden. Then they sat on Doogie’s log couch overlooking the western horizon and enjoyed one more delicious meal as the sun settled slowly into the surrounding forest and the sky hailed the passing of another fine day with a colorful pagent of clouds and sky.

Jerome became a fine friend to the piglets, visiting often and helping with the building of their houses. The piglets enjoyed serving the many delicious meals they would prepare for Jerome and his friends in the nearby woods. Together they all enjoyed happy healthy lives, and enjoyed many fine days and created many fine memories together.

"Three Pigs and a Wolf" is a spin off of "The Three Little Pigs". I wanted to illustrate for my sons that the scripts of our lives can be written however we choose, and that tragedy and vengeance are not necessities for exciting moments.
