No Age is a two-person American indie rock band,
consisting of guitarist Randy Randall and drummer and vocalist Dean Allen
Spunt. They were formed in 2005, after leaving their previous band, the
hardcore punk group Wives. Both members of No Age are vegan. You

When asked how important
veganism is to him, Randy Randall answered:
Randy Randall: "Very important. That's one
of the few personal politics I'm able to live out everyday."
Dean Spunt: "I mean who says that you
should really eat a f***ing cow anyway. It’s a living thing you
know? For me, that’s heavy. I wouldn’t feel right. I feel like
if I started eating meat I would just start not caring about
more stuff. ... until I’m just like most people."
Randy Randall: "I feel like
being vegan or not driving a car or just choosing to live your
life in whichever way you want to is really important because
it's your life and it means something."
When asked whether he ever
thinks about not being vegan anymore, Dean Spunt answered:
Dean Spunt: "No, it’s just so
easy. Maybe when I was younger I’d be thinking ‘oh maybe I’ll
eat eggs’ but then it’s like ‘what’s the point?’ I don’t crave
the stuff. I just think about the reasons why I’m vegan and it
really outweighs any of the ‘I wanna eat something because it
tastes a certain way'."
Dean Spunt: "It’s cruel to eat animals and
the factory-farming industry is f***ed up. Also growing up in
Southern California, it’s so easy to be a vegan. I’ve seen
videos of how they treat animals and not just when they kill
them, when they’re getting their milk out or their eggs. I don’t
know how many times I’ve seen videos of cramped chickens, they
just kind of snip their beaks off so they don’t peck at each
other because they're crammed in cages. I don’t like that energy."
Randy Randall: "Dean and I are
both vegans so food becomes a priority when we get into town! It
almost becomes a hobby in itself – but it’s rewarding, if at the
end of the day you get some good food out of it. We know all the
falafels restaurants in Europe!"
When asked whether they find
it difficult to find places to eat in certain cities, they
answered:
Randy Randall: "No, I think
being vegan is a choice so you kind of accept all the challenges
about it. If you're complaining and you're vegan, you're kind of
just an as***le, because it's your choice and you're choosing to
live your life that way so you kind of have to understand that
it’s not the way the world works. Any grocery store has enough
food for any vegan to eat."
Randy Randall: "I love rolling
in to a new town and finding the cool/weird/awesome vegan
restaurant. It might not be in the center of town, so you gotta
go exploring and find where the Vegans in that town hang out."
When asked about their
favorite foods, Randy Randall answered:
Randy Randall: "Dean and I
have different tastes but I love spicy Kale salads and BBQ
seitan."
"Dean Spunt: "Being vegan really makes you
think about food more. When you eat the western american diet,
you eat whatever you want, and when you go vegetarian, you minus
meat, when you go vegan, you really open up the world of food.
It's way more fun to eat. You don't just put something in your
mouth, you wonder what you are doing for the planet, and try
Thai food, African food, Indian food. Stuff you never would have
tried."
