Quotes by Lindsay McDougall:
| "When I first joined
Frenzal Rhomb,
I was quickly made aware of the Vegetarian issue, before then I
had no bloody idea. I was brought up very 'Meat and Potatoes',
and it was Jason, our illustrious lead singer, and our managers
Dianne and Chris, who alerted me to the whole animal cruelty
business. So I cut out all meat " |
|
| "After being vego for almost 3 years, I
realised that it wasn't enough, and I knew that cheese, eggs,
gelatin, whey, milk solids non fat, albumen, emulsifiers 471,
481 etc... were also causing gross animal cruelty, sometimes
worse than the production of the actual meat itself. And I
realised I couldn't justify knowing that and still eating it.
And so I stopped. Just like that." |
|
| "I don’t eat, drink, wear or use any
product that’s tested on animals, or has animal products in it,
or if possible is made by a company that has other products that
are tested on animals or contain animal ingredients. ...
Sometimes you’re getting lied to and just don’t know it. So it’s
a constant education, finding out as much as you can, all the
newest info and latest let downs." |
|
| "I call myself a vegan, primarily to be
cool, and secondly because for me it’s more than just not eating
animal products. Being vegan is also about doing everything you
can to lessen and stop the suffering of all animals on earth.
Getting out and letting people know how awful the whole industry is, to promote the
alternatives, to sign petitions, write letters, hand out
leaflets, do interviews, get drunk and lecture people
self-righteously for hours… you get the point. I understand and
respect people who don’t eat animal products but don’t wanna
talk about it, but I want everyone to know, partly coz I want
them to think about it too, and partly coz I want them to know
how cool it is." |
|
| "I think it’s important for every vego and
vegan to use everything they’ve got to bring attention to the
cause." |
|
| "The industries filling the majority's
head with 'food pyramid' and 'calcium from milk for healthy
bones' crap are massive industries, and it it going to take a
lot to get people to see past their propaganda." |
|
| "There were times in my life when I
realised things were a little off kilter. Like when friends
would say how they could never hurt their pet, or how much they
loved their horse, and I'd think, 'but you still eat meat, isn't
that the same'." |
|
| "I think being a vegan, having that
attitude to all living thing, is such a big part of who you are,
that I would not want to be with someone who wasn’t." |
|
| "People always ask us vegos and vegans why
we eat mock meat and fake cheese, when it looks so much like the
real stuff. But that’s exactly the point. We get to eat all the
stuff you dirty carnivores eat, without hurting a bloody thing.
One point to us, meat eaters – nil." |
|
| "Two years ago I made my very first
tofurkey – tofu turkey. Because I got sick of trafficking them
back from America or getting my friends to smuggle them back coz
you can’t get them in Australia, so I made my own. I found a
recipe and its ... amazing!" |
|
| "The saving of animals and the subsequent
protection of the environment is a big step towards saving the
doomed human race." |
Quotes are from his
2000 interview with June Bird, his
2010 interview with my vision on tv and
his interview with Conversations with Bianca. |
